As the UK slowly eases out of lockdown and domestic and international travel starts to resume, thoughts are turning to the next bank holiday, and what the travel situation may look like then.

The long weekend in August will be especially welcome this year, after the last four bank holiday days were largely celebrated behind closed doors, having fallen at the peak of the coronavirus lockdown in the UK.

So when is the August bank holiday – and what are the 2021 bank holiday dates?

When is the August bank holiday?

People in Scotland don’t have long left to wait for the summer bank holiday, as the August bank holiday is celebrated on Monday 3 August.

The bank holiday falls on Monday 31 August in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

After that, there won’t be another bank holiday until Christmas Day, Friday 25 December.

Can I book a trip over the August bank holiday?

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that you never know what’s around the corner, however, as things stand, travel is currently permitted.

Earlier this month, the FCO changed its travel advice, releasing a list of 73 countries exempt from its ban on ‘all but essential travel’ while the Government dropped its 14-day quarantine for a list of ‘air bridge’ countries.

Before booking a trip, check your destination is in the FCO’s exemption list and ensure you understand the quarantine restrictions both of your host and home country.

Also be aware that your holiday could be cancelled last minute if the situation changes at all or if you fall ill.
