Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds have reportedly held a secret Covid-secure baptism for their four-month-old son Wilfred.

Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson was baptised in front of close friends and family in a ‘beautiful’ ceremony on Saturday.

The prime minister and his fiancée did not host a reception in a bid to ‘set a good example to the public’ during the pandemic.

No pictures of the ‘special day’ will be released, The Sun reports.

A source told the newspaper: ‘After everything Boris and Carrie have have been through this year, baptising Wilfred was a very special moment.

‘They shared it with a small number of people and the service was simple but beautiful, with lots of tears and laughter.’

Wilfred was born on April 29 this year – days after his father left intensive care following a battle with coronavirus.

Mum Carrie released the first picture of him on Instagram days later, writing that she ‘couldn’t be happier’ and her ‘heart was full’.

She has since revealed their son was named after the prime minister’s grandfather, while his first middle name, Lawrie, was her grandfather’s given name.

His second middle name, Nicholas, was chosen for Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart, two doctors at London St Thomas’ hospital whom Mr Johnson credits with saving his life after he fell ill.

Speaking about his son for the first time in an interview with The Sun in May, the Tory leader was asked if he ever feared he might not live to see his sixth child.

He said: ‘Well, yes, of course. We’ve all got a lot to live for, a lot to do, and I won’t hide it from you, I was thinking about that, yes.’

In an interview with LBC in July he described Wilfred as ‘a wonderful kid’ who gave the family ‘an absolutely wonderful time’.

Downing Street has declined to comment on the baptism.
