Another 15,166 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK in the past 24 hours, while 81 more people died.
The daily jump is a rise on yesterday when 13,864 new infections were reported, but is lower than on Thursday when more than 17,500 people tested positive.
Meanwhile, leaders in the northern England have hit out at Downing Street over plans to close pubs and hospitality venues under a new system of coronavirus restrictions.
Around 10 million Brits in the North are set to be affected by tougher regional lockdowns, with Boris Johnson expected to unveil a three tier ‘traffic light’ system on Monday.
