It has been revealed that the UK economy grew by just 2.1% in August, which is less than half of the predicted growth of 4.6%.

This is a major slowdown from the 6.4% expansion seen in July, and appears that the Government’s popular Eat Out To Help Out scheme which saw Brits enjoy 50% off their restaurant bill Monday-Wednesday throughout August wasn’t nearly as successful at boosting the economy as previously believed.

Meanwhile, Pubs in the worst affected areas of North England may be forced to close next week in order to control Covid-19.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson ‘is reportedly drawing up plans to order restaurants and pubs in northern England to close from Monday.

This will include Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Nottingham, according to the Financial Times, which states a decision by senior ministers to tighten measures is expected by the weekend.

Also, yesterday saw a huge jump in coronavirus cases as another 17,540 tested positive in UK.

Another 77 more deaths were recorded yesterday, bringing Britain’s overall coronavirus death toll to 42,592.
