The UK has seen another surge in coronavirus cases, as a further 22,961 positive cases were recorded in the past 24 hours – bringing the total number of UK cases to over 500,000.
Another 33 people died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, according to official figures.
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has indicated that the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme, where people were given a discount to go out to restaurants, could have helped spread coronavirus.
The prime minister said that it was now important to ‘counteract’ any influence the scheme could have had on the disease with measures now to control the virus.
