A schoolboy is in a critical condition in hospital after he was attacked close to a school in south London.
Police were called to the scene after receiving reports a man was attacking people with a pole close to Dunraven School in Streatham.
The 13-year-old was found with a head injury in Leigham Court Road, in Streatham, at about 3.30pm on Wednesday.
He was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital where he is currently fighting for his life.
A 35-year-old man has been arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
Following the attack, the Dunraven Educational Trust tweeted: ‘Stay safe everyone. Stronger together.’
It tagged Dunraven School in the message, along with two other local schools. It is not yet clear if the victim is a pupil of Dunraven School.
Lambeth Police tweeted: ‘Police were called to Leigham Court Road, SW16, at 15.23hrs on Wednesday to reports of a man attacking people with a pole. A 13yo boy was found with a head injury. He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
‘The boy’s condition has been assessed as life-threatening. A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH. He has been taken into custody.’
