Donald Trump Junior has tested positive for Covid-19, his spokesman confirmed.

The spokesman said the younger Trump learned of his diagnosis earlier this week, but he has no symptoms and has been quarantining.

Mr Trump Jr, who is the outgoing president’s eldest son, is the latest member of the family to become infected with the virus.

Trump Snr, the first lady and their son Barron have already recovered from Covid-19.

They tested positive weeks before the US election, throwing Trump’s campaign trail into chaos and forcing the cancellation of the second presidential debate between him and President-elect Joe Biden.

‘Don tested positive at the start of the week and has been quarantining out at his cabin since the result,’ Trump Jr.’s spokesperson said.

‘He’s been completely asymptomatic so far and is following all medically recommended Covid-19 guidelines.’

Andrew Giuliani, the son of the president’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and a White House aide, also said he tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.

Trump’s chief of staff Mark Meadows and a number of aides in his campaign and the White House have also tested positive in recent months. The administration has been criticised for spreading false information about the virus and flouting public health guidlines such as mask wearing.

Trump Jnr, who campaigned for his father throughout the country, has also made false claims about the virus.

Late last month, he told Fox News that the number of deaths from Covid-19 is now ‘almost nothing’ – on a day when nearly 1,000 new fatalities were recorded.

Meanwhile his Twitter account was restricted over summer for sharing a video that spread false information about the drug hydroxychloroquine.

He also came under fire for urging his father to got to ‘total war’ over the US election result.

He was branded ‘reckless’ and told to ‘get a grip’ for repeating false claims about corruption as the knife-edge results hung in the balance days after the polls closed.

News of his infection comes after his father muttered ‘I won’ during his second public appearance since losing the US presidential election to Joe Biden a fortnight ago.

The President of the United States made the remark at the White House Friday – only the second time he has spoken publicly since Biden was declared winner on Saturday November 7.

Speaking about his efforts to lower drug prices, Trump went off-piste and said: ‘Big pharma ran billions of dollars of negative ads against me during the campaign, which I won by the way. ‘But, you know, you’ll find that out. Almost 74 million votes. we had big pharma…the media…big tech…a lot of dishonesty against us.’
