Two men in their 60s were hit and killed outside a school in Bedford

A man has been arrested after two pedestrians were hit and killed by a car.

Police said there was a collision involving a car and two pedestrians outside Bedford Sixth Form, in Bromham Road, at around 12.22pm on Saturday.

‘Emergency services attended and two men, both in their 60s, were pronounced dead at the scene. While formal identification has not yet taken place, their next of kin have been informed,’ a police statement said.

‘A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.’

Sergeant Aaron Murphy added: ‘We are currently carrying out several lines of inquiry to establish the circumstances which led to this tragic incident.

‘We understand there were several people in the area when it happened so we would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any information or dashcam footage, to get in touch with us as this will greatly help our investigation.’

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
