Boy, 15, fighting for life after being hit by police car on 999 call

A teenager is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a police car on Boxing Day.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were responding to reports of a ‘domestic disturbance’ when the collision happened on Garners Lane, Stockport, at around 9.30pm on Saturday.

The boy, aged 15, suffered a serious head injury and officers gave him first aid at the scene until an ambulance arrived. He was then taken to hospital and remains there in a critical condition.

Pictures show damage to the front of a police car and three other emergency vehicles at the scene, which was taped off to the public.

A GMP spokesperson explained: ‘At around 9.30pm on Saturday 26 December 2020, officers were responding to a domestic disturbance incident when they were involved in a collision with a pedestrian on Garners Lane in Stockport.

‘Police stopped and administered trauma care to a 15-year-old boy until the ambulance arrived. The boy has since been taken to hospital with a serious head injury where he remains in a critical condition.

‘An investigation is underway.

‘This incident has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct in line with normal procedure.’

A damaged police car can be seen on the payment close to a tree. It's unclear how badly injured the pedestrian is but one officer at the scene described the incident as serious. The road is expected to be closed for several hours whilst investigations continue. Greater Manchester Police are to comment further.
