Pregnant women will not be given the coronavirus vaccine and will have to wait until after they have given birth.

But new mothers who are breastfeeding will be allowed to be vaccinated and the guidance says pregnant women who are deemed high-risk due to other health factors should be offered the jab ‘as soon as possible after completion of pregnancy’.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s will hand back around £440 million saved from the Government’s business rates holiday a day after Tesco said it would hand over £585 million and £274 million by Morrisons.

A number of supermarkets have faced scrutiny about benefitting from the business rates holiday – which was designed to help businesses struck by the coronavirus pandemic and ends in March- because they are also paying out dividends to shareholders.

The news comes as 648 more people died of coronavirus in the UK yesterday, with 16,170 new cases.
