The Eden Project in Cornwall has been closed due to ‘significant flooding’ on the site overnight, a spokesperson has confirmed.

Reports of closure began this morning, with some customers taking to social media to say they had been turned away from the site, in St Blazey.

A source then told Cornwall Live that the attraction had been hit with a landslide and staff had been forced to evacuate the area. It is not currently clear how long the attraction will be shut down.

The Eden Project is made up of two biomes which house thousands of plant species collected from different climates and environments across the world.  It also has an outside botanical garden, which displays plants native to Cornwall and the UK as a whole.

Customer Laura Gavasingha said she was turned away from the site by a man in a high-vis jacket who shouted that they needed to return to their cars around 9.45am this morning.

She said: ‘I asked if they were flooded but he said there’d been a landslip. We had the big Father Christmas event booked for 11 after booking the moment the tickets came out. Last I saw they hadn’t put anything up on Facebook or Twitter to stop others travelling.’
