Snow could fall across the capital today, with urgent ‘yellow’ weather warnings issued this morning for some parts of the city.
The Met Office said snow may be ‘briefly heavy’ in the boroughs of Havering, Redbridge and Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley, in the east and south-east of London.
Meteorologists warned: ‘Heavy rain and snow leading to tricky travel due to surface water and possible slushy accumulations.’
Lewisham and Southwark, and Croydon, south London, were also told to expect snow, with commuters warned of reduced visibility and longer travel times due to spray on the roads.
Two spells of snow were forecast for Croydon this morning, one at 9am and another at 11am, but it could be a bit disappointing and look more like sleet, MyLondon reports.
BBC weather predicted four hours of sleet across West London, with showers in Harrow expected between 7am and 10am.
Sleet has also been forecast for Haringey, North London, between 9am and 12pm along with Barnet and Enfield.
Chief meteorologist at the Met Office, Dan Suri, told The Mirror : ‘It’ll certainly feel more wintry this week, with colder weather bringing a risk of frost, ice and wintry showers.’
