Matt Hancock is self-isolating and will be ‘staying at home and not leaving at all until Sunday’ after a notification from the NHS app that he may have been exposed to coronavirus.

He posted on Twitter that he had been ‘pinged’ by the app, which told him he had been ‘in close contact with somebody who has tested positive’.

‘I’ve got to work from home for the next six days. And together, by doing this, by following this and all the other panoply of rules that we’ve had to put in place, we can get through this and beat this virus.’

It comes three days after he was filmed taking his government-permitted exercise in a park in North London.

A witness said Mr Hancock was playing rugby with his son and was ‘covered head to toe in mud’.

A member of the public was heard asking ‘you’re a bit dirty mate?’ in the video. Mr Hancock replies: ‘Bit of a muddy Saturday.’

More follows.
