The UK is slowly easing its way out of coronavirus lockdown, with the re-opening of non-essential retail planned as step three of the roadmap.

Many high-street chains will finally be opening their doors once again, with safety measures in place in a bid to keep Covid-19 at bay, as the public gradually adjusts to its ‘new normal’.

But while shops may be re-opening, when will we see the return of other services, such as tattoo parlours?

Here’s what you need to know…

When will tattoo shops open?

In England, tattoo parlours are could return alongside other non-essential retailers on April 12.

While this is contingent on the vaccination rollout going as planned, ink lovers can start planning that next design now.

Tattoo shops in Scotland may be able to reopen in the last week of April, along with hair salons.

The Welsh government has not yet announced when tattoo parlous will reopen, and many are hoping that a plan will be outlined after the next lockdown review on March 12.

In Northern Ireland, it has not yet revealed when tattoo shops will open, but this may be a topic discussed in the lockdown review on March 18.

What Covid-secure rules will be in place for tattoo parlours?

Tattooists will have to wear full PPE, and shops will have to be disinfected regularly. Customers will have to wear masks to receive their new artwork, too.

If you fancy a full makeover, hairdressers are also likely to open on this date.

Tattoo shops will have to follow guidelines to reopen, including:

  • Introducing one-way systems inside parlours
  • Not allowing walk in customers
  • Spacing out equipment and workstations.

Under the current plan, the April 12 date will also see the reopening of outdoor dining, and UK-based holidays.

The government has stressed that the roadmap is based on current data, and should be seen as the earliest possible date for reopenings.

It is possible that opening dates will have to be pushed back further if cases climb again.
