Roads closed in Brixton after ‘man with a knife’ seen

Parts of Brixton were at a standstill this evening after emergency services responded to reports of a man with a knife.

A man in his 20s has been arrested after police used a Taser stun gun.

He was treated by paramedics and then detained.

Buses were diverted elsewhere as roads were cordoned off as part of the response, while a police helicopter was seen overhead.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: ‘Police were called at approximately 5.47pm on June 27 to Brixton Road, SW9 after reports of a man with a knife.

‘Officers attended the location. A scene was put in place and traffic diverted.

‘A male in his 20s was later detained nearby at Astoria Walk, SW9 after a Taser was deployed.

‘The male was treated by colleagues from the London Ambulance Service and then taken to custody.

‘Enquiries continue. There were no reports of any other injuries.

‘Roads have now been reopened.’
