Boris Johnson and Prince William are cheering England on among 60,000 spectators as the team faces off with Denmark in the Euro 2020 semi-final showdown.

The prime minister posted a picture of himself wearing a personalised England shirt with ‘Boris’ on the back as he made his way to Wembley Stadium tonight.

Showing his support for the Three Lions on Twitter, the Tory leader wrote ‘we’re behind you’.

Last night he said: ‘Gareth Southgate and the England squad have done the nation proud in the Euros, and tonight we will all be wishing them the best of luck in getting to the final. Bring it home!’

The PM was pictured alongside wife Carrie Symonds, as well as former footballer David Beckham and former manager Fabio Capello before the match.

The Duke of Cambridge – who is the president of the Football Association – is watching tonight’s game without his family.

It comes as wife Kate Middleton self-isolates after coming into contact with a Covid case.

Gareth Southgate’s squad is on a quest to secure a place in Sunday’s final against Italy.

Millions across the country were left gutted when Denmark’s Mikkel Damsgaard notched the opening goal with a long-distance free-kick.

But fans were sent into raptures after Raheem Sterling equalised just before half-time.

One fan, Carl Afinwayo, 23, from Croydon, south London, said: ‘Oh my word, it’s insane, we needed that- we needed to equalise.

‘Sterling has had a great tournament as well, he should be knighted.’

Ricky Thompson, 29, a window fitter from Milton Keynes – watching the game at Boxpark in Croydon, said he was ‘gutted’ after Demark pulled ahead.

He said: ‘Pickford should have saved that, no way. And the referee shouldn’t have given a free kick in the first place.

‘I’m gutted, really gutted but still confident. Come on England.’

No boos were heard tonight as players took the knee to show support for Black Lives Matter.

ITV commentators said the atmosphere was ‘one of the best’ in recent memory, heralding the ‘buzz’ and ‘sense of occasion’ felt in the huge stadium.

Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, wife Princess Mary, and their son Prince Christian, 15, have all been given Covid exemptions to travel to London for the tense clash.
