A man has been arrested after ‘suspicious items’ were found in a London home.

Police shut down busy Vauxhall Bridge Road in Pimlico after the alarm was raised shortly before 6pm.

Following the reports, cops are said to have raided a home, close to Victoria Station and Westminster.

A large cordon was put in place on the road and the A202 was closed in both directions between Wilton Road and Drummond Gate.

Met Police said a man had been arrested at a home in Vauxhall Bridge Road.

A police spokesman said: ‘Police were called to an address in Vauxhall Bridge Road at 17.51hrs on Thursday, 15 July to reports of suspicious items.

‘Officers attended. A cordon has been put in place as a precaution while the items are investigated.

‘One man has been detained and enquiries continue.’

Images from Transport for London’s traffic cameras online showed a police van blocking the unusually empty street.

One person tweeted earlier: ‘We have been told by police not to let anyone go in or out (we are on Vauxhall Bridge Road).’

Another said: ‘It’s cordoned off just outside where I live. Police and ambulances there.’

The cordon has now been taken down and the road has reopened to traffic.
