With social media, there’s always someone sharing both the juiciest and most mundane aspects of their life – especially on Instagram Stories.
But what about the times when you want to have a peek through what someone’s posted without them knowing?
Mostly, all users can see exactly who has taken a look at their Story – but where there’s a nosey will, there’s a way.
Here are some sneaky methods to view someone’s Instagram Story without them knowing about it.
Put your phone on flight mode
This method is probably the easiest of the three mentioned here, as all it requires is some pre-planning and the touch of a button.
Instagram automatically loads up a row of stories for you to watch as soon as you enter the app – so, step one would be to open up the app.
Next, turn on flight mode, which will cut the internet access to your phone for as long as it’s activated.
Then, voilà : you’re free to take a look at the Instagram Stories you want to see discreetly. When you’re done, make sure to close the app before turning flight mode back on – that way, your view won’t be registered with the profile.
Use a fake Instagram account
Of course, we’re not advocating for you to be anyone but yourself while online – but some people have a fake Instagram account, or a ‘finsta’, for viewing and sharing content without anyone knowing exactly who owns the account.
Log in to your alternative account, go to the Instagram profile you’d like to look at in secret and snoop away – just as long as the account is open, or has given access for the alternative account to follow.
Use a third-party app
Another method that will allow you to look at an Instagram story in private is by using a third-party app, using a website like Insta-Stories. For this, all you’ll need is the username of the desired story you’d like to look at.
However, this method will only work if the account is public, and doesn’t require permission to view.
Can people tell if I’ve looked at their Instagram?
If all you’re hoping to do is to secretly take a look through the pictures someone has on their grid, then you’re in luck – Instagram doesn’t inform users of who has been looking at their page.
However, you have to make sure not to accidentally like any of their posted images, as that will quickly send them a notification!
