Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, has announced that he tested positive for the virus.

He revealed on Monday afternoon that he is experiencing mild symptoms, after having flu-like symptoms on Saturday night.

‘I was just informed by the House physician I have tested positive for Covid-19 even after being vaccinated,’ Graham tweeted

He continued: ‘I feel like I have a sinus infection and at present time I have mild symptoms.’

Graham, who saw a doctor on Monday, said he would be quarantining for 10 days.

‘I am very glad I was vaccinated because without vaccination I am certain I would not feel as well as I do now,’ Graham stated. ‘My symptoms would be far worse.’

The senator from South Carolina was spotted walking around Capitol Hill on Friday without wearing a face mask. On Monday afternoon, Huffington Post reporter Igor Babic tweeted that Graham walked through the Senate basement earlier in the day donning a mask.

Nearly 70 members of Congress have tested positive for Covid-19. However, Graham is the Senate’s first breakthrough infection, meaning the person infected had been vaccinated.

Most senators have received the jab and the upper chamber has not reinstated a mask-wearing policy.

The vaccination rate in the House is lower and several Republicans protested the lower chamber’s newly re-imposed mask policy last week.

Graham got vaccinated in December. He shared two photos on Twitter of himself getting the shot, including one in which he flashed a thumbs up.

‘Thank God for nurses who help people in need and know how to use a needle. Thank God for those who produced these vaccines,’ Graham tweeted at the time. ‘If enough of us take it, we will get back to normal lives. Help is on the way.’
