A woman has been been given a hefty fine after she spat at a woman who got in her way while running down a pavement.

Janet North, 62, swore at Naydine Clarke while she was dropping off her son outside Anton Junior School in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

She is said to have ‘started screaming and shouting’ for Ms Clarke to move out of her way as she ran towards them on the public path on February 11.

North returned saying ‘I’ll show you’ and spat in the mother’s face, said Ms Clarke.

Speaking on the day of the attack, Ms Clarke told the Andover Advertiser: ‘She actually spat in my face and it went in my mouth and was dribbling down my face, it was that close to me.’

North, from Andover, had denied the charge of assault.

But she has been fined £1,500 after she was found guilty at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

Ms Clarke told the Andover Advertiser at the time that North began screaming at her because she couldn’t get out of her running path.

‘She was giving me and my son verbal abuse, effing and blinding, and shouting “move out my effing way”,’ said Ms Clarke.

The mother said North spat on her before running off – but came back to give her and her son ‘more abuse’.

Mr Clarke added: ‘She went: “I’ll show you” and spat on me and my son at the same time.’

The mother managed to take a picture of North as she ran off following the incident.

Following police enquiries, North was identified and charged with assault.
