The past year of travel restrictions and lockdowns has made the idea of moving abroad all the more appealing.
You always want what you can’t have, and right now that’s a fancy holiday home in a hot climate… or just anywhere that’s not here.
So it’s no surprise that Brits have been browsing overseas homes.
Rightmove has pulled together a list of the most popular homes for sale abroad for 2021, by first looking at the most popular countries on its website, then identifying the most viewed property within each location.
They found that the top spots for property porn among Brits are the US , France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s property expert, said: ‘Although it’s been a difficult year for people looking to travel, Britain’s fascination with property and dreaming of a move abroad is as evident as ever.
‘From a luxury mansion in the city that never sleeps, to a stunning villa in the Algarve, overseas properties have continued to captivate the nation so far this year.’
Sounds about right. So, shall we take a look at the properties that have captured our attention the most?
Six bedroom townhouse in New York, USA, $50million (£36.5million)
This six-bedroom townhouse has 10,400 sq ft of interior space spread over seven levels, all with curved windows (which also happen to be bulletproof) to take in the views.
There’s also a rooftop terrace, of course, with even better views of the city.
Eight-bedroom villa in Cannes, France, €70million (£60million)
Along with 2.72 acres of outdoor space, eight bedrooms, and nine bathrooms, this has gym, spa, cinema room, dance studio, and wine cellar.
There’s also a large courtyard with a koi pond and a waterfall, plus a massive swimming pool, hot tub, and bar.
That’s all with stunning views of the sea.
Five-bedroom villa in Campanio, Italy, €6.5million (£5.5million)
Right on the Amalfi coast, in an area known as ‘a terrace between heaven and Earth’, is this villa on the rocky coast, built with natural stone.
Inside, each of the levels is joined by a lift and has breathtaking views.
Plus, if you don’t fancy swimming in the sea on your private beach, there’s also a pool.
Eight-bedroom villa in Algarve, Portugal, €12.5million (£10.7million)
Eight bedrooms, three pools, more than 10,000 sq ft of interior space, all on the Quinta Do Lago lake.
Go up and you’ll find the roof terrace, with its own plunge pool, or downstairs is a gym, spa area, and game room.
Three-bedroom villa in Ibiza, Spain, €627,500 (£538,000)
The cheapest of the top five, this villa is part of a residential complex that offers sea views and eight pools, plus a tennis court.
If you bought this place, you’d get a private hot tub along with three bedrooms and access to the rooftop.
A private pool is set to be added, too.
