There are many ways you can keep an eye on how well your posts are doing on social media.

Your followers can hit like on Instagram, send multiple reactions to your stories, while on Twitter you can watch the number of likes and retweets climb.

But on Snapchat, it is all about the snap streak.

But what exactly is a Snapchat streak, and why is it so important to Snapchat users?

A Snapchat streak is when you send direct snaps back and forth with a friend for a number of consecutive days.

Every day you send a Snap to a friend, your streak gets longer.

Snapchat will reward longer streaks with emojis – the 100 emoji is used to mark streaks lasting 100 days, while a mountain is awarded for an exceptionally long streak.

You can see how long your streak is next to a contact’s name on the Snapchat app.

A streak is symbolised by a little picture of a flame and the number of days the streaks have gone on for, which only you and your friend in the streak can see.

Snapchat streaks have become the main means of measuring success on Snapchat, as it only became possible to publicly display your follower (or subscriber) count from November 2020.

The app is largely used by a younger audience, as over half of UK Snapchat users were aged 15 to 25 years in 2020, while in the US over 50% of users are under 25.
