President Joe Biden has announced an order to employers with 100 or more workers to require that they be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
‘The Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees and together employ over 80million workers to ensure that their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week,’ said Biden, speaking from the White House on Thursday afternoon.
Biden pointed out that some of the country’s largest companies have already imposed vaccinate mandates on workers, including United Airlines, Disney, Tyson Foods and Fox news.
‘The bottom line: We’re going to protect vaccinated workers from unvaccinated co-workers,’ Biden said.
In addition, the Labor Department will require employers with 100 or more employees to give them paid time off in order to get inoculated.
The president also said he would sign an executive order requiring all federal workers in the executive branch to be vaccinated, as well as contractors doing business with the government.
‘Today in all, the vaccine requirements in my plan will affect about 100million Americans, two-thirds of all workers,’ Biden said.
‘And for other sectors, I pose this appeal – to those of you running large entertainment venues, sports arenas, concert venues… please require folks to get vaccinated or show a negative test as a condition of entry.’
Biden showed through his orders that he is becoming more forceful around vaccinations – and made it clear in a message to specifically to unvaccinated Americans.
‘What more is there to wait for? What more do you need to see? We made vaccinations free, safe and convenient. The vaccine is FDA approved. Over 200million Americans have gotten at least one shot,’ he said.
‘We’ve been patient but our patience is wearing thin and your refusal has cost all of us. So please do the right thing.’
