A suspect being questioned by detectives over the murder of primary school teacher Sabina Nessa is a food delivery driver from Sussex, it has been reported.
The 36-year-old man was arrested at a flat behind a burger bar in Eastbourne in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He is said to have delivered pizzas for Domino’s between May and July and is believed to have continued to work in the area, where he has lived for several years.
Detectives had released CCTV images of a man they wanted to speak to and a silver car they believe he had access to, all captured in Kidbrooke, south-east London, where Sabina was last seen.
She was heading out for a first date with someone she had known ‘for some time’, according to a friend, before being attacked in Cator Park five minutes from her home.
It has yet to be confirmed whether the suspect in the images is the same man who has been arrested.
A 14-year-old Nissan Micra matching the description in the Met’s appeal was seized on the outskirts of Eastbourne and taken to a Met Police garage, although the force refused to say whether it was connected with the case.
Forensic teams and detectives have been seen entering the property where the suspect was arrested.
Reports indicate he is of Albanian origin and had been living with a woman in the flat for some time.
According to The Sun, locals said the woman was his wife, of Romanian origin, and they split up a month ago.
Detectives say a random attack is a significant line of their inquiry, and are said to have poor-quality CCTV of Sabina and her attacker together.
They are still appealing for information about the car in the publicised images.
The balding man shown in the appeal is believed to have been carrying a ‘reflective red object’ that he may have been trying to conceal up his sleeve.
Two men have been separately arrested on suspicion of murdering Sabina and subsequently released under investigation.
At a vigil for the victim, her sister Jebina Yasmin Islam said: ‘Words cannot describe how we are feeling, this feels like we are stuck in a bad dream and can’t get out of it – our world is shattered, we are simply lost for words.
‘No family should go through what we are going through.’
