Former health secretary Matt Hancock hit the streets of his constituency for a Partridge-esque meet-and-greet video.
The married cabinet minister resigned in June after being caught on CCTV breaking his own social distancing rules by kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo.
By the end of the month friends said the 42-year-old was already plotting his political comeback.
But his tentative attempts to mount a return have not been easy, with Mr Hancock being called a ‘gargantuan mass of deceitful smegma’ on his running fundraising page and heckled as he spoke in the Commons.
A new sharply edited video posted on Twitter features the disgraced West Suffolk MP speaking with locals.
He captioned it: ‘Great be out & about in Haverhill yesterday, chat to people on the high street and see the brilliant new splash park funded by the council.’
The video played over feelgood background music begins with Mr Hancock speaking to people in a pub beer garden.
He receives a pat on the arm and face by a woman who says: ‘Good to see you, you’ve done very well.’
He replies: ‘Thank you. Well, we’ve got through it haven’t we? And I’m coming out the other side.’
In the next exchange he fist bumps café workers and says: ‘How you doing? How’s business?’
In another clip he’s having a photo taken with a woman who appears to say something he wanted to hear, and Mr Hancock replies: ‘Oh do you? Oh my god, you’re fantastic!’
Some viewers said it was great to see Mr Hancock again, but other social media users mocked the video, drawing comparisons to political satire The Thick Of It and even likening him to character Alan Partridge.
Dad-of-three Mr Hancock left his wife of 15 years and woke his children up in the night to tell them he was leaving after a tabloid revealed his affair.
He was spotted in the Swiss Alps on a romantic holiday with Ms Coladangelo, who is also married with three children, earlier in September.
Last month Mr Hancock took to charity fundraising during his tentative re-emergence in public life.
He set up a JustGiving page to receive donations for a hospice for running the London Marathon – but the page was inundated with abuse, with the former minister called ‘deplorable’, a ‘self-serving venal clown’ and ‘vile’.
