A teenage rugby player has died in a suspected hit-and-run crash just a day before his 18th birthday.

Dylan Price, 17, was found in a country lane hours before he would have been celebrating.

He was found with fatal injuries in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Dylan was a committed member of Bishop’s Castle Rugby Club in Shropshire.

A club spokesman said: ‘Words cannot describe the feelings the boys are going through at the club right now.

‘Dylan Price was not only a club member or team mate he was a friend, a brother and always a smile everyone loved to see around the changing room.

‘He always gave his everything in to all he did, not just on the rugby pitch. Dylan will forever be a part of Bishops Castle Rugby Club and will never be forgotten.

‘Our thoughts and love go out to the family in this tough time.’

He was found in Brampton Road between Lydbury North and Bishop’s Castle just after 2am.

Police officers believe he had been hit by a vehicle while he was walking along the road, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.

A fundraising page has collected more than £5,000.

It reads: ‘All of the money will be given to Dylan’s family to help cover costs for his passing and anything else they might need. All donations are gratefully received.’

Signing her name, one woman wrote: ‘Will so miss that cheeky smile Dyl. You were one in a million and our hearts are breaking.’

Another wrote: ‘I do hope you get to the bottom of this terrible tragedy. Lots of love to friends and family suffering this huge loss.’

His parents, who also have two daughters, were described as devastated and appealing for privacy.

Detective Inspector Dafydd Jones said: ‘This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the young man’s family at this incredibly difficult and upsetting time.’

Officers have today been in Brampton Road to talk to anyone that might have information relating to Sunday’s incident.

Police are urging people who may have seen Dylan walking along Brampton Road or any vehicles or people in the area acting suspiciously to get in touch.

Officers would also like residents and businesses with CCTV or doorbell cameras, or motorists with dash-cam footage of the area at around that time to contact police.
