A driver has been found dead after hitting a woman with his car and stabbing her.
The woman, aged in her 40s, was walking with a boy when she was mowed down by the car in Egremont, Cumbria, at 2.30pm yesterday.
The driver, a man in his 20s, jumped out of the red Kia Rio and attacked her, stabbing her in the arm.
Police were then called to a report of a single vehicle crash 15 minutes later on St Bees Road, involving the same car.
Officers arrived and found a man in a nearby woodland. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was taken to a hospital in Carlisle, where doctors confirmed her injuries were non-life threatening.
The child, of secondary school age, was also taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering minor injuries. He was later discharged.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances and there was no threat to the wider public at the time.
