Houston middle school shooting ‘leaves at least one person injured’

At least one person was reportedly injured in a Friday morning shooting at a middle school in Houston, Texas.

A suspect was taken into police custody, according to the Daily Mail.

The Houston Police Department received a call around 11.45am and commanders and a public information officer responded to reports of an active shooting at a school at 4400 Anderson Road at Hiram Clarke.

‘Scene is still active,’ the police department tweeted.

That address is where YES Prep Southwest Secondary middle school is located.

‘There is one suspect in custody,’ the police department tweeted at 1.25pm local time. ‘Officers are searching the school for any other possible suspects at this time. Scene is still active.’

Cops advised residents to avoid the area as they looked for other possible suspects.

A staging area was set up at Hiram Clarke near Anderson Road for Houston Police Chief Troy Finner is slated to hold a briefing around 2.30pm.

Yes Prep Southwest Secondary is a charter school serving grades six to 12 and has a study body of about 1,000, according to ABC 13
