Over 100 firefighters are at the scene of a huge blaze at an industrial estate in Nottingham.

Residents are being urged to stay away from Harrimans Lane and keep their doors and windows shut to avoid smoke inhalation.

Fire crews have been at the scene for hours but their presence has been stepped up as the blaze spreads.

In an update shortly before 10pm this evening, Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Over 100 firefighters continue to tackle a significant metal fire on Harrimans Ln.

‘Please stay out of the area and be aware of a large number of vehicles travelling to the incident. If you live nearby, keep your windows and doors closed.’

Firefighters earlier said that two aerial ladder platforms, a high volume pump, and welfare unit are also in attendance.

Fire crews have been at the scene since 7.20pm, with dramatic images showing huge plumes of smoke engulfing the skyline from miles away.

Residents reported hearing the sound of ‘explosions’ as the blaze rips through the building.

It comes as Storm Arwen batters the UK with winds of 100mph.

Rescuers stressed the importance of keeping doors and windows shut amid the strong gales.

According to NottinghamshireLive, it is the third time in a year that firefighters have been called to the same industrial area.

The cause of the latest blaze is not known and there have been no reports of injuries.
