A former goaltender for the US soccer team has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest while her two-year-old twins were in her car.

Hope Solo, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was detained in a Walmart parking lot in North Carolina on Thursday, TMZ reported.

Solo, 40, was charged with DWI, misdemeanor child abuse and resisting arrest.

Solo’s lawyer, Rich Nichols, told TMZ in a statement: ‘On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges.’
