The Queen’s hopes of winning the Platinum Jubilee Epsom Derby day have been shattered after her runner pulled out of the race last minute.

Her Majesty is known to be a passionate horse lover and breeder and would have been excited to see her horse running on Saturday for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The Queen will now also no longer attend tomorrow’s Epsom Derby, Buckingham Palace has announced, but she will be watching it on TV from Windsor Castle.

It is the second Platinum Jubilee event in a row she’s had to cancel due to her mobility issues and the discomfort she’s been feeling.

Just Fine had been entered to feature in the penultimate race, the World Pool Northern Dancer Handicap.

However, the horse was removed from the race at yesterday’s 48-hour declaration stage.

It isn’t the first time the Queen’s hopes of winning the famous Derby have been dashed.

Earlier in May, her horse Reach For The Moon, was among the favourites to win and two others were also withdrawn as well.

The three thoroughbreds were among a large number who had been ‘scratched’ from the entry list according to the Jockey Club.

Thoroughbreds owned by the Queen have won four out of the five flat racing classics – the 1,000 Guineas and 2,000 Guineas, the Oaks and the St Leger – with only the Derby eluding her.
