Queen’s children unite once more for Vigil of the Princes

King Charles has led his siblings in tonight’s Vigil of the Princes ceremony in Westminster Hall.

Princess AnnePrince Andrew, and Prince Edward joined the new monarch for the historic event.

They each stood for 15 minutes, each at a corner of the Queen’s coffin, as part of the poignant vigil.

As the ceremony was carried out, a steady stream of people are walking by in silence as they pass the late monarch’s casket.

Other members of the royal family, including the Queen Consort, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence and the Countess of Wessex, along with some of the Queen’s grandchildren, looked on.

After leaving Westminster Hall following the end of the vigil, they were given a round of applause by the public in the queue.

A similar event took place in Edinburgh earlier this week where the Queen’s children each took guard of the late royal for 10 minutes.

In doing so, Princess Anne became the first ever woman to be part of the Vigil of the Princes ceremony.

Until now, it has only been carried out by male members of the royal family.

All four of the Queens’ children were dressed in uniform for tonight’s ceremony.

Speculation had surrounded whether Prince Andrew would be in military attire for tonight’s ceremony.

The Duke of York had been granted permission the chance to do so as a ‘special mark of respect’ for his mother, according to royal sources.

On Saturday, the Queen’s grandchildren will reportedly hold a vigil at her coffin on Saturday – with the Duke of Sussex wearing his military uniform.

Harry completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan but had been denied the chance to wear his military uniform as he publicly mourned as he is no longer a working royal.

But the Daily Mirror said Palace officials have had a change of heart, with a source saying ‘common sense has prevailed’.

Harry will reportedly join his brother William and cousins Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall at the vigil.
