Shoppers were left scratching their heads after a huge Christmas tree looked to have been put up three months early.

Festive fans saw the massive 30ft tree, complete with tinsel and baubles in Hackney, east London, and at first thought it was the council putting its annual tree up early.

One shopper said: ‘Quick question…is 3 months too early for putting up a Christmas tree in hackney central? I think so! Why??’

Another said: ‘Why does Hackney have their Christmas tree and stalls up.. in September?!!?’

Some speculated that the council had put up the tree early (86 days early to be exact) but others noticed signs nearby that it was to do with filming nearby.

Musician Tom Peacock said: ‘I regret to inform you that they have a DECORATED CHRISTMAS TREE on Mare St. in Hackney. It’s September.’

However Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville put minds at rest and confirmed to one shopper it had only been put up while a shop filmed a Christmas advert.

He said: ‘It’s Christmas Ad shoot for a well-known business.’

It isn’t the only early festive excitement, as some stores including Morrisons have been stocking mince pies and Christmas puddings since August.

While some psychologists have said it is good for your mental health to put up decorations early.

Festive super fan Pip Bensley has already got her tree up at home, ignoring the cost-of-living crisis.

The mum-of-two put up her artificial Christmas tree in her home in Southampton on Sunday August 28.

‘It’s not crazy, it’s just early,’ Pip said.

‘The cost of the lights isn’t much compared to the happiness they give.’
