Customers who visited the Olivello restaurant in Middlesborough on five specific dates in August must self-isolate, the local council has said.

Customers who visited the restaurant on August 25, 26, 27, 28 or 29 must isolate for two weeks, beginning from the date they were there.

Public health guidance is being issued in the area as cases in Middlesborough rise and their recent addition to the government watchlist as an ‘area of concern’.

The council is asking those who were at the restaurant to not go to work, schools or even leave their houses to buy food.

Further guidance from the council asks customers who went to the restaurant on those five days to only get a test if they display symptoms of the virus.

Advising patrons that a mobile testing site at Newport Community Hub is available until Thursday; those who have developed a high temperature, a new, continuous cough and a loss or change to taste or smell can also book a free test online or by calling 119.

The permanent Middlehaven site is open from 8am-8pm daily.

The instruction to self-isolate follows three positive tests linked to the Linthorpe Road restaurant.

Olivello management is cooperating with the local council and taking action by way of a deep clean and closing the restaurant until Monday when the situation will be reviewed.

In a statement, the restaurant said: ‘We have been contacted by Middlesbrough Council and been advised to take serious action after customers between the dates August 25 and 29 have tested positive for Covid-19.

‘Customers that dined with us between (those dates) are now [being] contacted because they may have been in contact with a case of Covid-19.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience. If anyone develops symptoms they should go and get a test.

‘We would like to share none of our staff have presented with symptoms however, will all be tested before we reopen.’

Olivello has asked those with questions to either contact them on 01642650772 or through Facebook.
