President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France will go back into a nationwide lockdown on Friday.
Addressing the nation on Wednesday, Mr Macron said that France must now ‘apply the brakes brutality’ to avoid being ‘submerged by the acceleration of the epidemic’.
France reported 523 more coronavirus deaths on Tuesday, the highest number of daily deaths since April.
Meanwhile, the UK recorded another 310 coronavirus deaths and 24,701 new cases yesterday.
It was the second day in a row to see over 300 deaths.
The total death toll now stands at 45,675 and official cases to 942,275.
