A further 521 people in the UK have died after contracting coronavirus, bringing the overall death toll – as of Friday – to 57,551.

Another 16,022 have tested positive for the virus, bringing the official number of cases since the pandemic began to 1,589,301.

Meanwhile, families should choose quizzes over board games this Christmas to help stop the spread of Covid-19, Sage has said.

The group, which advises the government on the pandemic, said it would be best to avoid doing anything that involves physical contact like passing objects during a board game.
