Donald Trump has spent another day playing golf and ranting on Twitter as he continues to refuse to accept the result of the US election.
The outgoing President snuck out of the White House earlier to spend the day at his golf club in Virginia but found time to tweet about the ‘lamestream media’.
Mr Trump was also playing golf yesterday when the TV networks called the election for Joe Biden. Decision desks at mainstream news providers often project the result in this way, even before all the votes have been counted.
But the President showed he was still in no mood to accept the outcome. His tweet said: ‘Since when does the Lamestream Media call who our next president will be? We have all learned a lot in the last two weeks!’
His campaign staff have been keen to back up the President’s point that the election isn’t decided by the press, albeit in slightly bizarre ways.
Trump’s spokesman Tim Murtaugh earlier shared pictures of their campaign headquarters plastered with images of a Washington Times front page proclaiming Al Gore had won the 2000 presidential election.
George W Bush eventually won that election by a narrow margin, seemingly proving Mr Martaugh’s point that journalists get it wrong.
But the Washington Times quickly pointed out: ‘Those photos have been doctored. The Washington Times never ran a “President Gore” headline.’ Mr Murtaugh later removed the pictures from Twitter.
Meanwhile, countless world leaders have sent their congratulations to Mr Biden, who has begun planning for his presidency.
But Republicans continue to claim mail-in ballots were subject to fraud which swung the election away from their candidate. Election watchers have found no evidence of this.
Mr Trump tweeted a link to a story on the Breitbart website claiming a ‘ballot issue’ has been discovered in Fulton County, Georgia and a video from Fox News about Republican candidates gaining new voters.
He’s promised to appear on a talk radio show hosted by Mark Levin at 8pm Eastern Time.
While travelling to his golf course he would have seen jubilant Biden supporters lining the roads. One man held a homemade sign that said ‘orange crushed’ while another woman had written ‘time to heal America’ on her placard.
Another critic held a poster which read simply: ‘Trumpty Dumpty had a great fall.’
Trump supporters waving American flags and wearing Make America Great Again caps were also out in force.
Pictures showed the President waving from his motorcade and giving the thumbs up although he also appeared furious at times.
Meanwhile America’s President Elect Joe Biden visited Brandywine Roman Catholic Church In Wilmington, Delaware for Sunday mass.
After the service, he headed in the direction of the cemetery where his son Beau is laid, along with first wife Neilia and their daughter Naomi, who died together in a car crash almost 50 years ago.
Mr Biden has already begun assembling his team, including two co-chairs of a coronavirus working group.
