It’s nearly time for a new dawn, a new day and a new year as we say farewell to 2020 and welcome in 2021.
New Year’s Eve celebrations looked vastly different this year, with Brits urged to celebrate indoors as three-quarters of the country are seeing in the new year under tier four restrictions.
Not going out might mean more of us wake up feeling fresher than previous New Year’s Days.
So, if you’re up early, can you hop on a train to get out and about?
Do trains run on New Year’s Day 2021?
Unlike Christmas Day, which saw transport networks across the country shut down, trains do indeed run on New Year’s Day.
However, with the country facing rapidly rising coronavirus cases, if you can avoid using public transport today, you should stay home.
If you do have to go out, follow social distancing measures, wear a face covering (unless exempt) and regularly wash your hands.
Here’s how the train schedules are looking across the country:
London Underground/Overground
New Year’s Day services will still run, on a reduced service.
Tube lines will run a reduced service, with first and last trains running at their regular weekday times.
The Overground will be running a Sunday service.
Tfl Rail
This New Year’s Day, TFL rail will be affected by different closures and maintenance.
Changes include:
- No service between Liverpool Street and Romford
- A reduced service between Romford and Shenfield
- Bank Holiday service between Paddington and Heathrow/Reading
Replacement buses will also be operating on the Romford-Newbury Park and Romford-Stratford routes.
South-West Trains
Most of their routes will be running, but with reduced services some days.
Planned engineering works will also be taking place and will have an impact on some services between Sunday, December 27, 2020, and Sunday, January 3 2021.
