The man who killed British backpacker Grace Millane has been convicted of sex attacks on two more women, it was revealed.

He could not be named in New Zealand earlier as he had a Court of Appeal case pending over his murder conviction and had been facing trial in New Zealand for the other charges.

Now, it can be made public that Kempson, 28, has been convicted of attacking two other women.

His appeal against his murder conviction has been dismissed and a court order banning him from being identified has been lifted.

It can be revealed that eight months before he strangled Ms Millane and left her body in a suitcase after they had been on a Tinder date, he attacked another British tourist in similar circumstances.

In the earlier incident, he had also met the victim on Tinder before taking her back to his motel room in Auckland in April 2018.

He raped her after she refused to have sex with him after he had bought her drinks, as she lay crying on the bed, Sky News reported.

After recognising Kempson from media coverage of Ms Millane’s case, she went to the police.

At his sentencing, she described how flashbacks from the attack led to her waking up ‘crying and screaming’, afraid that Kempson would be able to find her.

The murderer was also convicted in October of eight charges relating to attacks, including using a knife, on another woman between November 2016 and April 2017.

Kempson was jailed for a minimum of 17 years in February for killing Miss Millane, from Wickford in Essex, in a hotel room in Auckland in December 2018.

The Millane family said in a statement to the BBC: ‘As a family we do not think about him or speak his name.

‘To use his name shows we care and gives him the notoriety he seeks.

‘We instead choose to speak Grace’s name.’
