A salon owner has been fined £1,700 over a lockdown raid when her customers fled with hair dye still on their heads.

Tina Howarth, 35, secretly kept her salon open when it was supposed to be shut during the lockdown in January.

After getting a tip-off, police raided the business in Cwmbran, South Wales.

CCTV captured the moment eight people ran from Euphoria Tanning, Nail and Beauty as police swooped on the premises.

Footage showed one woman running away with treatment still in her roots.

A court heard there was no answer when officers tried to get inside as the customers escaped through a fire exit.

Police found the tanning beds had recently been used and beauty treatments were taking place in January this year.

Howarth, of Pontypool, was ordered to pay a £1,760 fine for failing to close a business ‘not permitted to be open’ under Level 4 Covid restrictions.

Speaking at the time, councillor Mandy Owen said: ‘It’s clear from the camera footage obtained following the latest visit that the business and customers were aware they were breaking lockdown restrictions putting themselves, others and the NHS at risk.

‘This is the second time the business has been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice.

‘Public Protection Officers issued the first fixed penalty notice in June 2020. This is very disappointing.’
