Passengers returning from India to England will no longer have to stay in costly quarantine hotels.

The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and India are the latest nations to be bumped up from the red list to the amber category.

From 4am on Sunday, passengers from the four destinations to England will no longer need to book 11 nights at a quarantine hotel.

Those who are double-jabbed will not have to self-isolate at all as long as they provide proof of a negative Covid test and take another one tow days after landing.

Passengers who have not received two doses of the jab will have to isolate at home for 10 days and take tests.

But it is not good news for passengers returning from Mexico, Georgia and the French overseas departments of La Reunion and Mayotte.

The destinations will be moved to the high-risk red tier on Sunday, with passengers required to stay at a Government-designated quarantine hotel.

Meanwhile, Spain has avoided being given red status, but the Government is urging travellers to take a PCR test before they fly home from the country.

The prices to stay at quarantine hotels are set to soar this month to ‘better reflect the increased costs involved’, according to the Government.

From August 12, the rate for solo travellers will rise from £1,750 to £2,285.

Additional adults sharing a room will see their bill hiked from £650 to £1,430.
