Family flees as lorry ‘deliberately’ ploughs into home after ‘domestic row’

Shocking pictures show a family home destroyed after an HGV was ‘deliberately driven into it following a domestic row’.

Windows were smashed and bricks scattered on the ground as the front of the house caved in during the horrendous incident on Sunday night.

The family fled by crawling through windows at the rear of the property at around 11.25pm. 

Children were seen in the street wearing pyjamas after the horrendous incident in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire.

Neighbours were also evacuated as officers rushed to the scene. There were no reports of injuries.

An Eddie Stobart lorry was later found abandoned in a nearby supermarket car park with extensive damage and bricks on the roof of the trailer.

One witness said it was ‘a miracle someone wasn’t killed’.

They added: ‘I saw the lorry driving at speed on the road and thought it was a bit strange but couldn’t believe it when I heard he had smashed into the house.’

Another neighbour revealed they heard an ‘almighty bang about half past 11’.

An East Kilbride house was destroyed after a lorry reportedly deliberately ploughed into a family home. Emergency crews raced to Merlin Wynd in the town after they were alerted to the collision. Locals reported online that nobody was hurt in the smash. The Lorry was later found abandoned in a Lidl car park about 3.5 miles away with parts of the building still embedded in it.

They continued: ‘I went for a walk to see what was happening and couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

‘The front of the house had been totally destroyed and all the neighbours were out.

‘The police turned up very quickly and evacuated other neighbours so they weren’t taking any chances.’

Police Scotland has launched a probe, with a source claiming it is being led by a specialist team of detectives.

A spokesperson said: ‘The building has sustained extensive damage and local residents were evacuated as a precaution. Enquiries are ongoing.’

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman added: ‘Operations Control mobilised two appliances and specialist resources to assist emergency service partners.

‘There were no reported casualties and firefighters made the area safe before leaving the scene.’
