A senior politician socialised with a paedophile with convictions dating back over 40 years, according to a whistleblower.
The politician is alleged to have met the offender a number of times – even though he is not a constituent.
A surveillance team watching the man following his release from prison recognised the MP.
Detectives then set up a ‘nominal file’ on the politician, which was closed days later on the orders of senior officers, according to reports from The Sun.
The shocking claims are made by a whistleblower first told about the matter several years ago.
He said that he has been ‘troubled’ by the suggestion that ‘someone on high’ thought an intervention was necessary.
It is unclear who the senior politician is, however, police told The Sun they are looking into the disturbing reports.
The informant, who worked in the criminal justice system for 20 years, has now made a 680-word statement to police about the case.
He has also supplied the names of three officers whom he believes may help with any investigation.
A spokesperson for the police force involved told the newspaper: ‘We are aware of, and are looking into, the allegations.’
