A 12-year-old Texas girl allegedly shot her father before turning the gun on herself as part of a ‘murder plot’ she made with another young girl to kill their families.
Police responded to a home in Weatherford, Texas, around 11.30pm Tuesday night, and found the 12-year-old girl lying in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the head and a handgun underneath her, according to a news release from the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl’s 38-year-old father was found inside the family’s home with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Both were taken by an air ambulance to an area hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown.
Authorities believe the shootings were part of a plot planned by the young girl and a friend to kill their families.
‘The juvenile suspect had planned for several weeks to murder her family and pets and had been in contact with another juvenile female from Lufkin, TX, regarding the murder plot,’ the Parker County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
‘The other juvenile female had also planned to murder her father, but did not go through with the plan.’
Lufkin, where the second girl lives, is about 230 miles southeast of Weatherford.
The girl who actually tried to carry out the plan was supposed to drive and pick up the second girl, as part of the murder plot. The girls were planning on running away together to Georgia, the sheriff’s office said.
The second young girl, who did not follow through with the plan, has since been charged with criminal conspiracy in the planning of the murder plot.
Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier said the investigation is ongoing.
‘Due to the injuries, the age of the juveniles and the sensitive case matter, information released regarding this case will be limited,’ Sheriff Authier said.
The adults and juveniles involved have not been publicly named.
