A farmer has died after an incident involving a bull at his own family farm in Wales.

Maldwyn Harries was found dead in the village of Penybanc, near Llandeilo, where his countryside cattle business is located.

His family called the police but the 58-year-old had succumbed to his injuries by the time officers arrived at the scene.

Mr Harries was well known in the farming community and was described as ‘salt of the earth’ by those close to him.

His daughter Nia posted a picture on Facebook of her and her dad together when she was a child captioned with a heartbroken and crying emoji.

The gym manager and her mum Gillian were being comforted by family members and friends after the tragedy.

Hundreds of well-wishers gave their condolences on her Facebook profile, calling Mr Harries a ‘true gent’.

‘Your dad was a very kind man and always had a laugh and a chat,’ one wrote.

Another said: ‘So sorry for your loss. Mal was one of the originals and one of the best.’

Edward Thomas, Carmarthenshire county councillor for the Llandeilo ward, said: ‘It’s very, very sad news and my thoughts are with the family.

‘All the people in the Llandeilo area are very saddened by the news and will be very supportive of the family.’

A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed officers attended the farm on Friday morning following a report that a man had been injured.

‘Sadly, a 58-year-old man passed away at the scene,’ they added in a statement.

HM Coroner for Carmarthenshire and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed of the death.

An inquest into the circumstances surrounding Mr Harries’ death has not yet been opened.
