It’s always busy this time of year, but Covid restrictions might have stretched your time even thinner.

If you’ve still got Christmas shopping to do and you need to quickly pop to the supermarkets, you’ll want to check they’re actually open to avoid a wasted trip.

Asda will be open for customers in the run-up to Christmas, but taking a cue from other stores like Waitrose and Aldi, stores will be closed on some days to give staff more time with families this festive season.

So when are they open over Christmas? Here’s what you need to know…

What are the Asda opening hours this Christmas?

Christmas Eve: All branches are open but are likely to have reduced opening hours, with many closing their doors around 7pm ahead of Christmas Day.

However this may vary from one branch to the next, so be sure to check the store locator on the Asda website to see what time your local branch shuts on that day.

Christmas Day: All branches will be closed on Christmas Day.

Boxing Day: This year, Asda are bucking the tradition of previous years and closing on Boxing Day.

All 631 Asda stores will be shut to allow staff more time with their families and Christmas bubbles this year.

In a statement, Chief Executive Roger Burnley said: ‘As you know, the strict guidelines set out by the government will change between 23 and 27 December and more households will be able to gather together.

‘This is of course our busiest time of year but it was important for us to give as many of you as possible the opportunity to spend this time with those loved ones that you may not have not seen for many months so, uniquely for this year, we will not reopen our stores until December 27.’

Normal opening hours will then resume at many stores until New Year’s Eve, when the retailer will once again be closing early for the New Year celebrations and opening later on 1 January.
