A dad-of-three stabbed his much younger 22-year-old girlfriend to death before turning the knife on himself, post-mortem reports indicate.
Ben Green, 41, is the only suspect in the murder of Maddie Durdant-Hollamby in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
Both their bodies were found at his home shortly after 1pm on Friday after Maddie’s parents raised the alarm having not heard from her in days.
Family friends of hers said she ‘wasn’t that happy with Ben and had spoken about ending the relationship’.
A friend of Green previously said they had been dating for two years and were ‘really happy’.
Today Northamptonshire Police said preliminary post-mortem reports showed Maddie, from Wimblington in Cambridgeshire, died of stab wounds, and Green of self-inflicted stab wounds.
Her death is being treated as murder and no-one else was being sought in connection with the incident.
Police added that both families have been informed of the findings and are being supported by specialist officers.
Detective chief inspector Joe Banfield said: ‘Our investigation into the deaths of Maddie and Ben continues, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.’
Maddie’s mum Rachel said her ‘beautiful’ girl had ‘grown her own set of wings and gone to fly with the angels’.
Green worked as a marketing director at a water management company and was a trustee for a children’s cancer charity.
His family described him as an ‘extremely loving father to three extraordinary young children and was a beloved partner to his ex-wife’.
In a statement they added: ‘He was also a loving son, brother, uncle, and nephew.
‘There are no words to describe the extremely sad circumstance of this tragic incident and our thoughts and prayers are with Maddie’s family, loved ones and friends.
‘We would now respectfully request time to grieve in peace and would ask members of the media to respect our wishes as we have no further comment to make at this devastating time.’
